Danse du balai est un spectacle de marionnettes d'ombres pour les sorcières d'hiver afin d’accueillir le printemps. C'est une chanson pour le seuil, pour l'endroit liminal entre la lumière et l'obscurité, entre la maison et le hurlement sauvage. Un arc lumineux de papier coupé à l'obscurité et aux nuits d'hiver.

Voyagez avec nous dans le domaine de la sorcière forestière, Baba Yaga, du folklore slave, dont la cabane à pattes de poulet est perchée sur le royaume de l'autre monde. Aventurez-vous plus loin dans la cuisine enchantée de la sorcière italienne qui donne des cadeaux Befana, et à travers le royaume sauvage de Matka Boska z wilkami, la divine mère du folklore polonais qui s'occupe des loups et protège les villageois à proximité.

Birdbone Theatre fabrique des spectacles de marionnettes à main et on les joue pour les jeunes ainsi que les vieux. Nous nous efforçons de faire un théâtre de marionnettes qui pourrait devenir une maison pour la beauté, pour se souvenir de vieilles chansons et histoires, pour des imaginations sauvages et pour rire dans les moments difficiles. Nous gardons à l’esprit que le théâtre est un moyen par lequel nous pouvons connaître les temps dans lesquels nous vivons, et un moyen par lequel les temps pourraient nous reconnaître.

Nous fabriquons nos spectacles avec des matériaux à portée de main, des techniques de superposition et une vaste musicalité. Nous ne bannissons pas les inachevés et les imparfaits dans nos spectacles, mais nous jouons souvent notre travail dans ses étapes expérimentales pour en apprendre davantage à ce sujet. Nous jouons de la musique, chantons et dansons pour lui tenir compagnie.

Birdbone Theatre est Aleksandra Bragoszewska (marionnettiste, directrice artistique) et Alison Gowan (marionnettiste, directrice musicale). Pour cette tournée, nous sommes rejoints par la chanteuse et musicienne ethnique basée à Toronto, Ekaterina.

Broom Dance is a shadow puppet show for winter and winter witches, a shadow song for the threshold, for the liminal lace between light and dark, between house and the howling wild. A luminous bow of song and cut paper to wild dark and to winter night. Join us as we traverse magical thresholds into the domain of the forest-dwelling crone, Baba Yaga, from Slavic folklore, whose chicken-legged hut is perched on the realm of the otherworld. Follow us into the enchanted kitchen of the gift-giving Italian witch Befana, and through the wild realm of Matka Boska z wilkami, The Divine mother with wolves from Polish folklore, who tends to the wolves and protects the nearby villagers.

About Birdbone Theatre

Birdbone Theatre makes puppet shows from scratch and plays them live for the young and the old. We strive to make puppet theatre that might become a house for beauty, for remembering old songs and stories, for wild imaginings and for laughter in hard times. We keep in mind that theatre is a way by which we can know the times we live in, and a way by which the times might recognize us.

We craft our shows with materials at hand, layering techniques, and a vast musicality. We do not banish the unfinished and imperfect in our shows, instead we often play our work in its experimental stages to learn about it. We play music, sing and dance to keep it company. Birdbone theatre is Possibilitarian at heart because it was forged at the Bread and Puppet Theatre under the work of Peter Schumann, and also because it has no choice.

Birdbone Theatre is Aleksandra Bragoszewska (puppeteer, artistic director) and Alison Gowan (puppeteer, musical director). For this tour, we are joined by Toronto-based singer and musician Ekaterina.

Great Lake Swimmers

Les Great Lake Swimmers sont un groupe indie-folk acclamé par la critique, dirigé par le chanteur / compositeur Tony Dekker, qui présente un mélange d'instruments acoustiques, de paysages sonores ruraux et de voix mélancoliques. Basé à Toronto, en Ontario, le groupe a émergé au début des années 2000 avec une succession d'albums très atmosphériques enregistrés dans de vieux silos et des églises de campagne.

Leur musique a progressé dans cette ambiance pastorale, jouée et enregistrée dans des endroits acoustiques uniques et historiques, avec un personnel de musiciens en rotation. Ils sont renommés pour leur folk-maison et leurs performances intimes d'inspiration de style Americana.

Great Lake Swimmers célèbre leur 20e anniversaire en 2023 avec "Uncertain Country", un album où les incertitudes se transforment en découvertes, les démos se concrétisent en pièces finies. Les onze nouvelles chansons explorent les thèmes de nouveaux départs, de réflexions sur le passé et de ruminations sur la fluidité du temps.

Great Lake Swimmers

Featuring a blend of acoustic instruments, rural soundscapes, and wistful vocals, Great Lake Swimmers are a critically acclaimed indie-folk group led by songwriter/vocalist Tony Dekker. Based in Toronto, Ontario, the group emerged in the early 2000s with a succession of heavily atmospheric albums recorded in old silos and rural country churches. The music developed in that pastoral warmth, performed and recorded in acoustically unique and historical locales with a revolving cast of personnel. They are renowned for their homespun folk and lush, intimate Americana in their live set.

Great Lake Swimmers celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2023 with “Uncertain Country,” an album where doubts are followed by discovery, demos end up as finished tracks, and themes of new beginnings, rear-view reflections, and ruminations on the fluidity of time form the basis of the eleven new songs.
